motion in my body=movement in my heart

You know me as mover—with you in yoga or physical therapy.  And maybe know me through dance. Movement in the body creates movement in our emotions. Motion breaks up stagnation in the emotion department.  And for that I am grateful.  Yes…I am a mover and I also love to write. This morning my writing began with this:

What is this feeling?  I adore the word “feeling” dually denoting sensation plus the emotion connected with that sensation.  Because the physical feeling comes first, milliseconds before heart mind create meaning.  Noticing that sensation of buttery warmth melting deep in basket of ribs. Hot interior flame that pulses on a dimmer switch, blazing then softening, kindled by the breath.  Or lack of breath.  Intimate ache of fire, not in a bad way, but a throb at times overwhelming, overbearing. What is it really? A tenderness, a longing, an oozing benevolence, a caring concern, a blessed hint of aliveness—is it love?  I don’t know what love is.  I only know of vivid life chapters where love, if that’s what it is, has flourished and coalesced into solidity.  Shifted from the ephemeral to the palpable…

And from this starting point on the page, this felt sense of body awareness kept translating into meaning.  This is why you find me in motion.  It is my trusted route to an internal landscape that is otherwise difficult to access.  A perspective that predictably becomes palpable in movement.  I really did not sit down to write to you about love but what a sweet entry point to the three things I want to say.  Here goes.

THING 1:  With increasing frequency people preface their inquiry about physical therapy with something along the lines of  “I was thinking you were retired, are you still seeing patients?”  I LOVE your tender concern. Let me say this: I’ve never felt in a more perfect storm moment: experience and knowledge-based wisdom overflowing. I’ve been at this 52 years.  My work with you delights me more each day. I’ve worked the human body challenges for decades—in my own body and yours.  Very little surprises me. And I really love when you come back in for a tune up.

If you’re a past patient and refer someone who schedules a physical therapy appointment this is my gift: one no-charge appointment for you, up to one hour, to address your current concerns. Word of mouth to spread the word.  If your life has been changed by our work together, thank you for word-of-mouthing to someone for whom you care.  This free offer available through 2024.

THING 2:  That bit of heartful writing up there emerged from moving all things from rib cage to finger tips in my body this last month.  Hence this workshop WINGSPAN at Yoga Shala March 13 12:00-3:00.  Our hands are messengers of our hearts.  LOVE this.  And along this sacred wingspan we’re often blocked—carpal tunnel to tennis elbow to rotator cuff.  Pain and limitation naturally arise from all manner of injury.  And to top it off, harm is created and aggravated by our habitual use of current technology—phones and keyboards.   A dedicated three hours to loosen what is bound; strengthen what is weak; feel the impact of weight bearing on the hands; stretch what is tight. All along that wingspan.  Put on your calendar, enroll link available soon. Come feel.

THING 3:  One year plus of Friday morning Release & Realign.  LOVE this so much.  Ultimate support if you’ve been a physical therapy patient or anyone who yearns to learn the power of tenderly caring for your ever-changing body.  Just show up at 10:00am if you’re new; we have a closet full of mats and rollers and balls.  When I teach, it’s an ever-changing flow of release and poetry, metaphor and breath, power and flexibility, balance and awareness.  When Kim teaches, it is the same but different and I’m out there on my mat with you soaking it up.  Jeanne and baby are thriving; she’ll be back to re-unite our threesome in April.

Those are the THINGS.  That is the LOVE.   Feeling you movers out there.  Let’s be together.

❤️Bella
